There aren’t many things in our everyday life that shock us anymore. We’ve seen it all, done it all, Tweeted about it, favourited it and scrolled on. But even in this digital age of apathy, the sight of a fox in the wild is one of the last remaining things in our everyday lives that still inspires a sharp intake of breath. Just a glimpse is enough to momentarily break us out of our numbing detachment – faces flushed, pulses racing. In this way, foxes embody everything that we want A.H.A. Design to be – unexpected, reenergising and captivating; a design studio that celebrates the past whilst skilfully adapting to the future.
Quinn the Fox began life as an outlet to express the ideas and feelings we couldn’t express fully with words. Our need to share fragments of life is an activity that has connected humankind throughout the ages, from prehistoric cave paintings to Reddit pages discussing the latest celebrity scandal. A.H.A. Design love all stories – from the ones that start with “once upon a time…” to the ones that end with “…but don’t tell anyone I told you that” and Quinn the Fox is a testament to that; each of his adventures is an abstracted assemblage of tales and experiences that we have either encountered ourselves or ones that we have inherited and passed on. In all of his adventures, Quinn is a bystander spectating on the folly of human nature and conceit. In doing so, he explores what it means to be human, revealing to us the many inconsistencies and oddities in everyday life that we have grown to accept and the simple, obvious truths that we have been forced to forget.
Quinn the Fox is the star of our “Tales From The War and Other Short Stories” homeware collection. As his popularity has risen, we have also introduced #QuinnsQuips, a weekly illustration series that features a selection of stripped back illustrations shared on Quinn’s Twitter which embody a profound idea in a colourful and quirky way.
Quinn the Fox is the crystalisation of A.H.A. Design’s ethics and sensibilities. Quinn’s adventures can be read at many different levels of meaning, from fairy tale to philosophical treatise – a completely unique take in the homewares market. We are often asked what the exact story behind each image is and whilst we are always happy to divulge, the real point of Quinn’s adventure is that we want you to interpret them, embellish them and share them in your own way. Everybody who tells a story, tells it differently and that is what makes each adventure uniquely beautiful to you.
