We were asked by Solsten, a trailblazer in the field of AI technology, to help with the visual identity and illustrations for their branding and website. Describing themselves as being at the interface of science and magic, the goal was to create a visual identity that not only reflected Solsten’s pioneering technology and research but also captured the imagination of their audience.
Inspired by the idea of adventure and drawing parallels with famous explorers, we conceived the concept of three penguin explorer guides – Earhart, Shackleton, and Cousteau. Each character was crafted to embody the spirit of their namesake, bringing a sense of curiosity and exploration to Solsten’s identity.
In order to capture the idea of science and magic, we opted for a decidedly retro-futuristic low-poly style. This design choice blended the nostalgia of the past with the optimism and promises of the future, creating a visually striking representation of Solsten’s innovative ethos.
For the website, our focus was on providing users with an immersive and adventurous experience. Expansive and dreamy low-poly worlds were created in the headers. From a euphoric, cloud-bursting voyage in the sky to discovering mysterious ruins thousands of leagues under the sea, these illustrations invite users to explore the possibilities of Solsten and serve as allegories for what Solsten’s AI technology could unlock. The intention was to make visitors feel as though they were on the brink of an exciting journey, mirroring the cutting-edge nature of Solsten’s work.
The collaboration resulted in a visually captivating and thematically cohesive brand identity for Solsten. The incorporation of the penguin explorer guides and retro-futuristic low-poly style not only set Solsten apart in the crowded AI landscape but also conveyed a sense of wonder and excitement to their audience.
